Is a tender process truly the best way to find the most qualified service provider for your company’s needs, or is it simply the best way to obtain the lowest possible price?
Is it even possible to get the highest quality at the lowest price in any area of life?
Can you buy the best home in the best neighborhood at the cheapest price?
Can you choose the ideal car for your needs based solely on sealed bids?
And isn’t a company almost certain to miss valuable opportunities when its pre-selection process relies only on paperwork?
As the father of a friend once told me:
“You first have to decide whether you want the best tomatoes—or simply the cheapest ones.”
By continually pressuring the best service providers to lower their fees, many Moroccan companies—despite having the financial means—are unintentionally forcing talented professionals to close their businesses or leave the country for places where their expertise is more appreciated, respected, and fairly compensated.
I encourage companies operating in our country to reflect carefully on this issue and dedicate the time needed for an honest and thoughtful discussion.
After two years of COVID, combined with increasingly shrinking profit margins, we have all the ingredients for a wave of business failures.
For those who genuinely care about preserving economic balance in Morocco, the path forward is clear: avoid short-sightedness and excessive self-interest. Be fair and generous toward the professionals who have earned your trust and whose work deserves proper recognition.
