In my view, the challenge is that many Moroccans are deeply influenced by several cultures at the same time. As a result, they often find themselves caught between two worlds.
At the same time, they want to be:
- Modern and traditional
- Pragmatic and spiritual
- Liberal and religious
- Independent and disciplined
- …
These contradictions are reflected in everyday behavior. The problem is that many people never fully embrace their own convictions or identity. Instead, they tend to follow the example of others, who are themselves following someone else. In English, there is a saying for this: “the blind leading the blind.”
My advice to anyone interested in living more authentically is to regularly take the time for an honest personal assessment by asking a few essential questions:
- Who am I, really?
- Who am I not, and who will I never be?
- What do I truly want from the rest of my life?
Conclusion
When you chase several rabbits at once, you catch none of them.
More importantly, it seems impossible to live a genuinely fulfilling life without being true to yourself. Each of us should take the necessary time to question our beliefs, reassess our values, and consciously design a life that reflects who we really are.
